Ohio's Long-term Graduation Requirements

To prepare students for success beyond high school, the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce requires students in the classes of 2023 and beyond to meet Ohio's long-term graduation requirements to qualify for a high school diploma. Ohio's Graduation Requirements: Class of 2023 and Beyond outlines the following three (3) key components:

Course Completion Students will satisfy Ohio's curriculum requirements and complete the state minimum of 20 credits plus any additional local requirements. One additional credit is required by Mogadore Local School District totaling 21 credits.

Demonstrating Competency Students will demonstrate competency in the foundational areas of English language arts and mathematics or through alternative demonstrations, which include CCP, career-focused activities, their ACT or SAT scores, or military enlistment.

Demonstrating Readiness (Seals) Students will demonstrate readiness for their post-high school paths by earning two diploma seals that allow them to demonstrate important foundational and well-rounded academic and technical knowledge, professional skills, and leadership and reasoning skills.

What is an Honors Diploma?
High school students can gain state recognition for exceeding Ohio’s graduation requirements through an honors diploma.  To meet the new
honors diploma requirements, students challenge themselves by taking and succeeding at high-level coursework and in real-world experiences.  Students graduating in 2025 have the option to earn an honors diploma using the current honors diploma requirements or the new criteria.

Ohio students have the opportunity to choose to pursue one of six honors diplomas.

  1. Academic Honors Diploma

  2. International Baccalaureate Honors Diploma

  3. Career Tech Honors Diploma

  4. STEM Honors Diploma

  5. Arts Honors Diploma

  6. Social Science and Civic Engagement Honors Diploma
